Currently, digital skills are one of the requirements asked by many employers. It is important for jobseekers today to possess exceptional digital skills to stand out among other applicants.

Our dependency on digital tools has increased because of the pandemic. According to research conducted by Simon Kemp, there are currently more than 5 billion people using the internet. It means digital skills are necessary to make someone more employable because the demand for tech-savvy workers will also increase.

Digital skill is a range of capabilities to use digital devices, communication applications, and networks to access and manage information, according to UNESCO. Lately, various business companies have relied on digital marketing to increase their revenue. It has become very common that, according to Hubspot, consumers will come to it as a way to learn about brands.

According to the Digital Marketing Institute, ten essential digital skills will make you stand out among other jobseekers. They can be summarized into several simpler points, as presented below.

Strategy and Planning

As stated by Business Queensland, digital strategy is the plan for introducing and using digital technology to meet your business goals. Companies that use a thorough plan are most likely to see measurable results in the long term. This is not just about selling products online, but also about how to build a steady digital transformation that will benefit the business in the long run.

It is found that 79% of senior marketers stated that strategy and planning are very important to an organization’s success. However, it is also one of the hardest skill sets to recruit for.

Data Analytics

A company collects data for various purposes. Before it can be used, it should be analyzed. Thus, data analysts must read and interpret raw data into explanations that can help a company make decisions. Reading data accurately is crucial because it can decide the company’s future.

Data analytics relies on several tools like spreadsheets, data visualization, data mining programs, and so on. Investopedia states that implementing data analytics into the business model helps reduce costs by looking for more efficient ways of doing business.

Search Engine Marketing

Search Engine Marketing, or SEM, is a way of getting traffic from paid and organic results. There are two types of SEM: Pay-Per-Click Marketing, or PPC, and Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. As reported by Branex, SEM specialists will be expected to increase brand awareness, boost engagement, and drive company sales.

Search Engine Marketing also relies on the data gathered by Data Analysts to optimize and boost the company’s search engine results. Moreover, SEM specialists also need creativity to ensure that the ads are appealing to the audience so that they will click the link and drive traffic. 

Social Selling

Business owners need to keep up with today’s increasing demand for an online presence. Hub Spot states that 81% of buyers are more likely to engage with brands that have a strong, cohesive, professional social media presence. This is because modern buyers rely on social platforms for reviews and advice.

On the good hand, social selling also helps in creating positive brand awareness and brand image. It can be achieved, but not exclusively,  through content marketing. Content marketing is not limited to blog posts; videos, infographics, presentation decks, podcasts, social media status updates, and emails are also forms of content marketing. 

Email Marketing

One of the oldest forms of digital marketing is email. Even today, email is still a favorable medium of marketing, because according to Finance Feeds, it is cost-efficient and customizable. It is also flexible in content, scalable in its expansion and customer base, and also considered real-time marketing.

Email should not be considered an old-fashioned tool. It can be a versatile tool if the marketer is skilled. Forbes further states that an email marketer should be creative, have good copywriting skills, and have a keen awareness of what’s happening in the world.

At last, a new jobseeker doesn't need to be  instantly proficient in one of these digital skills. However, being familiar with one of these digital skills is considered an invaluable asset that can make you stand out among other jobseekers.
